NATIONWIDE — The Trump 2025 shutdown has become the longest in U.S. history—its central fight over healthcare threatening 22–24 million Americans with skyrocketing premiums. More than 4,000 federal workers were illegally RIF’d, billions in infrastructure funds were withheld, and 42 million people relying on SNAP were pushed toward hunger. Although the Senate has now passed a partial deal restoring backpay and temporary job protections, federal workers say it falls far short. Mutual-aid funds are depleted, and healthcare costs continue to soar. That is why the Federal Unionists Network (FUN), joined by NNU, IFPTE, Jobs With Justice, Popular Democracy, and local unions, will host food drives, community clean-ups, town halls, and informational pickets across the country in the ongoing campaign to:
Protect health care for millions by extending Affordable Care Act subsidies.
Sustainably Fund SNAP and food security programs into the future.
Defend the civil service and unions against mass firings, retaliation, and contract cancellations.
Protect free speech and democracy for federal workers and the communities they serve.
WHEN: Sunday, November 16 – Saturday, November 22, 2026
WHERE: Community service and action events in Washington D.C., Boston, New York, Cincinnati, Boise, Portland, San Francisco and other cities.
WHO:
Federal Unionists Network (FUN) — cross-agency network of federal employees organizing to defend democracy and public service.
“Federal workers are not standing down. We’re returning to work by serving our communities and upholding the will of the people. This is what real public service looks like.”
— Ellen Mei, a FUN organizer and USDA worker who is being targeted for termination for speaking out about SNAP.
National Nurses United (NNU) — representing 225,000 registered nurses fighting for healthcare as a human right.
“While the government may have reopened, millions are still feeling the pain of Trump’s health care and affordability crisis. Essential federal workers remain vulnerable—still forced to work without real protections from mass firings or contract cancellations. And despite the ongoing failures of billionaire-backed politicians, NNU nurses will continue to organize with our allies and fight for every working family. A better future is possible—but only if we fight for it together.”
— Mary Turner, RN, NNU President
International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) — representing federal and private-sector professionals nationwide.
“The livelihoods of federal workers and their families have shamefully been leveraged by this Administration to fulfill a draconian agenda that includes eliminating vital government services and resources that the American public so desperately depend on, including Medicaid and food assistance support for our most vulnerable citizens. The punitive attacks on these working families also include efforts to drastically cut or outright eliminate science and aeronautics research at NASA, and life-saving cancer research at NIH, for example. IFPTE applauds and supports the FUN National Week of Action to not only fight against them, but to also bring much needed transparency to the public about the assault on these, and other important services provided by our nation’s federal workers.”
— Matt Biggs, IFPTE International President
Jobs With Justice — national coalition of labor, community, and faith organizations defending workers’ rights.
Popular Democracy — a network of 47 grassroots organizations across 32 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico that unapologetically demand transformational change for Black, brown, and low-income communities. We upend politics as usual to forge a representative, multiracial government and society where we all thrive — no exceptions.
“Republicans’ refusal to extend ACA subsidies and restore full SNAP benefits is a direct attack on the health and stability of our communities. Families with children, people with disabilities, and elders are already hanging on by a thread — and these cuts will leave even more people without care, without food, and without support. Federal workers understand this better than anyone because their daily job is to make government deliver for the people, ensuring these essential programs reach the communities that depend on them. Trump and his loyal soldiers in Congress are trying to dismantle government from the inside out to strip power from working people and hand it to billionaires. We stand with the Federal Unionists Network in their Week of Action because defending federal workers means defending healthcare, food, housing, and the fundamental freedoms that belong to all of us."
