Furloughed Federal Workers to Call on Senators to ‘hold the line’
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, furloughed federal workers will meet with members of Congress for a day of action, urging senators to hold the line in ongoing budget negotiations during the second week of the federal shutdown.
Today, a group of federal workers will call on senators to reject any stopgap budget that allows the administration’s rampant illegal power grab to continue, without safeguards for affordable healthcare and vital public services. The action will include constituent meetings with key Senate offices and afterwards, on-site media availability. Last week, the Federal Unionists Network DMV hub delivered a letter endorsed by union bodies representing 50,000+ federal workers.
Visits to the following Senators are planned:
Sen. Gary Peters (MI)
Sen. Jacky Rosen (NV)
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (NH)
Sen. Maggie Hassan (NH)
Sen. Jon Ossoff (GA)

“Enough is enough. Federal workers are forgoing paychecks and careers to defend democracy and the public services tens of millions of Americans rely on,” said Monica Gorman, a NASA data scientist and steward with IFPTE 29. “This shutdown is not just a pause in government — it’s a power grab. We’re calling on the Senate to stand firm and protect millions of Americans and the future of the civil service.”
“When you fire the people who keep our food safe and our veterans cared for, you’re not cutting costs, you’re cutting lives,” said David Casserly, an attorney within the Department of Labor and a steward with AFGE Local 12. “This administration is punishing honesty and rewarding loyalty, but that’s not how democracy works. That’s why we are talking with Senators today.”
